Friedenberg - The 11th annual reunion service at former Peace Lutheran Church at Friedenberg is held in afternoon; speaker is Leroy Vogel, director of professional development and placement at Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, and editor of Concordia Historical Institute quarterly; Friedenberg congregation was established along banks of Cinque Hommes Creek by Bavarian Germans who settled in area in 1830s.

With county leaders of both Democratic and Republican parties recuperating from political blow delivered by Rep. Gary W. Rust yesterday that he has withdrawn from unopposed race for reelection to Missouri Legislature from 156th District, what materializes as result of Rust's unexpected announcement is confusion; in Jefferson City, Secretary of State James C. Kirkpatrick says that Rust must stand for reelection, despite his announcement.
Workers carefully crated statue of St. Francis of Assisi Tuesday, as they moved it to new St. Francis Medical Center at Route K and Mount Auburn Road; statue has symbolized St. Francis Hospital for more than 60 years.
50 years ago: Sept. 29, 1951
Body of Cape Girardeau flyer, S-Sgt. Thomas R. Adams, who lost his life June 9, 1944, on his last combat mission, has been recovered from Adriatic Sea and will be returned to United States for hero's burial in Arlington National Cemetery; young man's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Adams of Highway 61 just south of city limits, were notified Wednesday that his body, and that of four other members of B-24 crew, had been recovered in diving operation.
A 560-tract of land known as Windy Bar about four miles north of Cape Girardeau has been sold by County Court to E.L. Holliday of Thebes, Ill., for $700, price of $1.25 per acre; sale of tract was under legal provisions governing disposal of islands in Mississippi River.
75 years ago: Sept. 29, 1926
Because of rain, which starts falling early in morning and continues intermittently, big parade which usually opens Cape County Fair is postponed until Friday; today's racing program is postponed until tomorrow, when Cape Girardeau will shut down stores, banks and factories at noon to allow residents to attend exposition at Fairground Park.
City plan for Cape Girardeau is practically assured; City Council pledges its "aid and cooperation" to movement, and at same time Chamber of Commerce enters into contract with Harland Bartholomew, noted city plan engineer of St. Louis, for making of definite plan for city's future development.
