In light of recent Kenny G concert cancellation and sluggish ticket sales for Pointer Sisters' concert, Show Me Center has cut ticket prices to $10.50 for Pointer Sisters' Oct. 4 show.

Recommendations to establish ethics commission and to allow people to vote on new fees and taxes will be presented Monday at city council meeting; Cape Girardeau Charter Review Commission, appointed by council, will recommend establishing seven-member ethics commission; it would review official conduct of mayor, council members, city manager, chief purchasing officer, city judge and members of city boards.

Cape Girardeau County civil defense director Brian Miller says mutual disaster assistance agreement is needed among cities of Cape Girardeau and Jackson and county court; recommendation is one of several Miller makes to court judges.

Blasting of rock continues on West Park Mall site by Potashnick Construction Inc.; removal of rock above finish grade is necessary to get down to final grade for building and parking areas at site.

Verna Lee Landis, city clerk, says that possibility of city financial deficit this year has passed with heavy payments of city taxes in past several days bringing in enough revenue to care for current municipal needs.

Park commissioner J.W. McBride announces that city has purchased curtain at Broadway Theater for $250 and will install it on stage of Arena Building; theater will getting new type traveler curtain that is lighter in weight and red in color.

75 years ago: Sept. 24, 1929

Tom P. Barnett, prominent St. Louis architect who designed the Southeast Missourian Building, died last night in a Boston hospital; he was 59 years old and had been in ill health more than a year.

Music fills air in evening; members of Cape Girardeau Municipal Band and drum and bugle corps of Louis K. Juden Post of American Legion give demonstrations in several sections of town for benefit of residents and as welcome to students of Teachers College.
