Verna Lee Landis, city clerk, says that possibility of city financial deficit this year has passed with heavy payments of city taxes in past several days bringing in enough revenue to care for current municipal needs.

Park commissioner J.W. McBride announces that city has purchased curtain at Broadway Theater for $250 and will install it on stage of Arena Building; theater will getting new type traveler curtain that is lighter in weight and red in color.

75 years ago: Sept. 24, 1929

Tom P. Barnett, prominent St. Louis architect who designed the Southeast Missourian Building, died last night in a Boston hospital; he was 59 years old and had been in ill health more than a year.

Music fills air in evening; members of Cape Girardeau Municipal Band and drum and bugle corps of Louis K. Juden Post of American Legion give demonstrations in several sections of town for benefit of residents and as welcome to students of Teachers College.
