The city of Jackson is seeking to annex all 21 tracts of land west of the Interstate 55-U.S. 61 interchange whose owners want to be annexed instead by the city of Cape Girardeau; Jackson hopes to annex eastward, as well as to the north and south of U.S. 61, and southeasterly to Crystal Springs Estates.
SIKESTON, Mo. -- A new newspaper will hit the stands in Sikeston tomorrow: The Standard Democrat; Thomson Newspapers Inc. of Des Planes, Illinois, owners of the Sikeston Daily Standard, announces the purchase of the Sikeston Democrat Advertiser; the two newspapers will be consolidated into the Standard Democrat.
The Federal Aviation Agency won't permit a planned sale of property adjacent to the runway at the Cape Girardeau Municipal Airport, which had been intended as an industrial site; a contract had been signed between the city and Wayne J. Wilkinson, president of Cimron Inc. calling for the sale of four acres near the north end of the runway.

The first of a series of get-together meetings of Cape Girardeau County residents yesterday was a big success; 32 businessmen from Cape Girardeau and Jackson joined in the trip, visiting Fruitland, Pocahontas, New Wells and Shawneetown in Cape Girardeau County, and Altenburg in Perry County.
After the results of the local option voting of five years ago, wets carried Scott County by a majority of 833 votes in balloting yesterday; most of the larger towns favored the sale of alcohol, while smaller towns voted dry.
