The State Highway Commission announces the tentative location of the new interstate system's roadway running from St. Louis to the Arkansas line; it will be built largely with federal funds provided by the increased gasoline tax; while in most respects it will be on a different location than Highway 61, it will coincide with the present road in some places.
The Cape Girardeau Board of Education last night brimmed $26,690 from two of four bids submitted Monday for a new elementary school and is expected to do more slicing on a third; the end result of the carving session was the awarding of three contracts for the structure.
Formal military rites will be held for Capt. H.F. Wickham tomorrow afternoon, with a procession from Walther Funeral Home, 260 N. Middle St., to Fairmount Cemetery; leading the funeral procession will be members of the Cape Girardeau Municipal Band in full uniform, followed by a formal military escort composed of members of the 3rd Battalion Headquarters and Service Companies, Missouri National Guard, in full uniform and under arms; the coffin will be borne to the cemetery on a flag-draped caisson, drawn by two black horses.
Deeds Kimmel has purchased the Eat Shop, 302 Broadway, from Marie Cunningham; the two women opened the place together eight years ago.
The organ recital at the Presbyterian Church last evening by Charles Galloway, assisted by Marion Wrigley, soprano, was well-attended and was a most auspicious dedication for the new instrument; it was Wrigley's first appearance before a Cape Girardeau audience; she will have charge of the vocal department at the Normal School.
E.H. Egelmann, Charles Stehr and William Hinchey go down to Sikeston, Mo., to attend the horse show and livestock exhibit; while there, the gentlemen advertise the local fair and Cape Girardeau's centennial celebration.
