Yesterday was moving day for a frame residence here; the structure began its journey from a site on William Street opposite the Town Plaza Shopping Center; all went well until it reached Louisiana Avenue, when it became necessary to cut off a protruding section of one room; the small section was left on concrete blocks while the truck proceeded down William Street to Sprigg Street and thence northward; a second trip was made to pick up the marooned half-room on Louisiana; Ben Doza, a carpenter, moved the structure to his farm on Bertling Street.

Vess Oliver, a Cape Girardeau river pilot, is at the helm of the towboat that is swept onto a sandbar and sinks in the swift waters of the Mississippi River near Osceola, Ark.

CHARLESTON, Mo. -- Fire, possibly originating from blow torches WPA workers were using to burn away the paint on an old metal roof on the Mississippi County courthouse here late yesterday, caused damage to the building estimated at about $5,000; the steeple, containing a large clock and bell, was destroyed.

J.W. Davis of Cape Girardeau was flagged down by two men standing beside a wrecked car on U.S. 61, 1 mile north of New Madrid, Mo., last night; he was robbed of $6 and his automobile by the thugs, who kidnapped him and later left him near Kewanee, Mo.

1913

When Mrs. Frank Broadway took the Cape Girardeau suburban train for her home at Advance, Mo., last evening, she had her two daughters with her; when she reached home, she also had a son, the infant making his appearance shortly after the train left here.

W.M. Sutherland comes down from St. Louis with his superintendent, W.T. Wilkins, to look after the new Saint Francis Hospital contract; Wilkins will remain here to supervise the construction of the big building.
