Thirteen percent pay raises for faculty and staff head list of budget priorities at Southeast Missouri State University for 1994 fiscal year; Board of Regents yesterday voted to submit $77.7 million budget to Missouri Coordinating Board for Higher Education; as was case last year, heading list of budget needs this year is one calling for 13 percent pay increase.

Cape Girardeau Senior Center was given $20,000 check toward construction of building Thursday, same day bids for construction of facility were opened; Procter and Gamble Paper Products Co. presented center with check from The Procter and Gamble Fund.

25 years ago: Aug. 7, 1977

Man who was born and raised in Oran, attended Southeast Missouri State University, worked on Frisco Railroad for several years, and served with Army in World War II before he joined priesthood is new pastor of St. Mary's Cathedral; the Rev. Joseph Gosche took over duties as pastor Aug. 1, coming to St. Mary's from Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Dexter.

The Rev. Paul H. Jilg, pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church, inducts Thomas C. Wirsing as vicar of Trinity during morning service; in addition, Beth K. Rozendal is installed as teacher of fifth grade at Trinity Lutheran School, Mrs. Robert Hartmann is inducted as pre-kindergarten teacher, and Mrs. Thomas Wirsing is inducted as sixth-grade teacher.

50 years ago: Aug. 7, 1952

Contending state declined to accept its contract and also failed to properly renew one that has been in effect for number of years, city has formally canceled lease of National Guard for use of Arena Building as regimental and local company headquarters for 140th Infantry; it left way open, however, for negotiation and provided that Guard will be permitted to continue possession on month-to-month basis subject to 30-day notice to vacate in case new lease isn't negotiated.

Ralph L. Finley, Navy airman aboard carrier Boxer, was critically injured in explosion aboard ship, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Loran Finley of Fornfelt have been told by Navy Department; he suffered compound fracture of right lower leg and multiple wounds.

75 years ago: Aug. 7, 1927

The Rev. W.F. Driggers, pastor of Baptist church at Charleston and one of more widely-known ministers in Southern Baptist Church, occupies pulpit at morning service at First Baptist Church; the Rev. J.P. Scruggs, pastor, is absent, having been called to Charlottesville, Va., by serious illness in his family.

Articles of agreement of incorporation of Grace Methodist Church have been filed for record in office of County Recorder; degree of incorporation issued by Court of Common Pleas at Cape Girardeau Aug. 3; official name of corporation is "Grace Methodist Episcopal Church of Cape Girardeau, Missouri."
