A tradition of autumn, the 32nd Missourian Art Exhibition, will offer its visual treat for area residents Oct. 16-23; the exhibition is being held in conjunction with the re-opening of the Cape River Heritage Museum in its new location in the former fire department headquarters on Independence Street.

Missouri's 8th District Court of Appeals unanimously rules that the city of Cape Girardeau may not annex 4,350 acres of land adjoining the city to the southwest and northwest, an area that would have increased the city's size by a third.

50 years ago: Aug. 5, 1957

Dedication ceremonies for the Cape Girardeau Municipal Band Shell in Capaha Park will be held Wednesday evening during the regular band concert; Burwell Fox, a former band member, will review the organization's history and tell how the present band shell came into being.

Two proposals for traffic control, one by means of designated truck routes through the city and the other through an island on Spanish Street at the Broadway intersection, are introduced at the Cape Girardeau City Council meeting; both plans are referred to the Traffic Advisory Committee.

75 years ago: Aug. 5, 1932

County Clerk Edwin Kies and assistants complete the official count of ballots from Tuesday's primary election late in the evening; they find that nominees selected on the basis of unofficial returns maintained their places.

The public schools in Cape Girardeau will open Monday, Sept. 5; although that is Labor Day and a holiday, classes will be organized that morning, and then pupils will be dismissed for the rest of the day.

100 years ago: Aug. 5, 1907

In a few days, A.H. Beall of Cape Girardeau will begin the manufacture of artificial stones for foundations and other building purposes.

At the meeting of the Cape Girardeau City Council, the long petition of the citizens desiring an appropriation to assist in building a bridge across Sloan's Creek is tabled, in other words, killed; the petition asked that $1,500 be appropriated by the council to go to a fund already obtained from the County Court.
