CHAFFEE, Mo. -- Chaffee Assembly of God Church honors the Rev. William Marshall's 30 years of pastoring the church with a "pitch-in" at noon and a community singing following the event.

Trinity Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau observes its Mission Festival; guest speaker is the Rev. Rudolph Blank, a Lutheran missionary to Venezuela for more than 25 years.

50 years ago: Aug. 4, 1960

Heads of two area sheriffs departments lost in Tuesday's primary balloting; veteran Sheriff J.E. Scott of Mississippi County tumbled before W.J. "Pedro" Simmons, and Sheriff James McDaniel of Stoddard County fell to Ralph V. Temples of Dexter, Mo.

Cape Girardeau Municipal Airport was a busy place during the weeklong period ending yesterday, with approximately 196 planes taking off or landing, according to John Godwin Jr., co-manager of the port; most were cross-country flights by small, privately owned aircraft.

The first Works Progress Administration project for Cape Girardeau has been approved; it will be divided into two parts: One the razing of old Lorimier School, and the second, the grading and leveling of the school site.

The latest returns from the 14th District county seats indicate that congressman Charles A. Crow has been nominated over the contender, David W. Hill of Poplar Bluff, Mo., by a large majority.

A.D. Wilson, who has been employed at the shoe factory, has bought the Fruit Supply store on Main Street, opposite the First National Bank, and will conduct it in the future.
