Thomas G. Ogilvie is inducted as vicar of Lutheran Chapel Hope for 1993-94 academic year at Southeast Missouri State University; Ogilvie will be serving chapel as well as Good Shepherd Lutheran Chapel, under supervision of its pastor, the Rev. William A. Matzat.

Worship services for Red Star Baptist Church, 1301 N. Main, have been moved back to church; congregation has had to meet elsewhere for several weeks because of floodwaters; pastor of Red Star is the Rev. Mike Parry.

25 years ago: Aug. 29, 1978

Report of 12-member committee studying type of multipurpose building needed by Southeast Missouri State University and ways of financing it will be delivered to Board of Regents Thursday, culminating three months of work by committee; both conventional buildings and domed stadium advocated by Southeast's athletic director, Russ Sloan, are dealt with in report, which is expected to recommend latter alternative.

Cape Girardeau County Center for Senior Citizens is moving to new locations; volunteers are packing up old location, 23 North Middle, for move to new location at Cape County Farm Park; new facility was formerly occupied by Retarded Children's School.

50 years ago: Aug. 29, 1953

Temperature soars above 90 degrees for seventh straight day, and there is no relief in sight from current heat wave; few scattered showers are seen as possible for southern part of state this weekend.

Mr. and Mrs. Roland G. Busch of Cape Girardeau learn their son, Ensign Roland G. Busch Jr., has been released from communist captivity and returned to American control; his release came just year and three months after his parents received official telegram informing them their son had died when his jet plane crashed into hillside in Korea.

75 years ago: Aug. 29, 1928

Work of applying 1 1/2-inch amiesite topping to concrete slab on roadway of traffic bridge across Mississippi River will be completed Monday, officials in charge of work say; work has been completed on four of small spans, and amesite is being laid on floor of large span today.

Excavating machine arrived from St. Louis last night and will be placed in operation tomorrow digging basement for Montgomery Ward & Co. store building on Broadway; C.J. Reisenbichler, contractor, says work on building had been temporarily delayed by failure of machine to arrive first part of week; basement will be 10 feet deep and will contain a sales department for store.
