Varying amounts of rain fell on most localities in Southeast Missouri yesterday afternoon and early this morning, beating another dent in the drought that has gripped the area through the summer; while downtown Cape Girardeau measured less than an inch, parts of Perry County were soaked with four inches of rain.

St. Vincent's College, through its president, the Rev. James Murtaugh, secures a temporary injunction in circuit court at Jackson preventing the county court from selling an island just north of Cape Girardeau; as the property lies just off the college farm, with only a small chute of water separating it from the farm, the college takes the stand that the island is part of the farm.
