A joint application proposing the sale of Kimbel Lines Inc., a Cape Girardeau motor freight carrier, to Delta Motor Lines Inc., of Jackson, Miss., has been denied by Division 4 of the Interstate Commerce Commission; the agreement for the sale was made a year ago.

The Eisenhower Trophy for Missouri was presented to Capt. Thomas K. O'Laughlin, commander of Company E, 140th Infantry Regiment, of Jackson in ceremonies at the annual review of the 35th National Guard division at Camp Ripley, Minn., recently; having won it three times, the company gained permanent possession of the trophy.

75 years ago: Aug. 21, 1932

The Rev. William J. Boatman of Murphysboro, Ill., a United Lutheran minister, is the principal speaker at the evening union service at Courthouse Park; assisting in the service is a chorus of 24 men from the churches cooperating in the weekly services.

In the absence of the Rev. C.H. Morton, pastor of First Presbyterian Church, the Rev. George L. Washburn, pastor of Apple Creek Presbyterian Church near Fruitland, preaches at the morning worship service.

100 years ago: Aug. 21, 1907

A syndicate of local capitalists and lumbermen closed on a deal yesterday with the Wilson Bros.' Realty Co., whereby a large tract of land in Pemiscot County passed into its possession; 9,145 acres in the northwest corner of Pemiscot County were sold to the unnamed buyers for $157,000.

Leona Cunningham and Helen Vogelsanger have returned to Cape Girardeau from a visit with friends and relatives in Charleston, Mo.
