The library of the late Dr. Shelby D. Aubuchon has been given to the Baptist Student Center by his widow, Augusta Aubuchon; Dr. Aubuchon was director of the center from 1939 to 1952.

The Cape Girardeau City Council, by a tie vote, fails to ratify an ordinance that would have provided civil service requirements for the fire and police departments; in other action, Commissioner Phil Steck withdraws from consideration an ordinance that would have required the pasteurization of all milk sold retail in Cape Girardeau.
With public schools here to open in three weeks, the school board meeting paves the way by transacting a large volume of business, including the employment of five additional teachers after accepting resignations of five others.
In response to the American Book Co.'s refusal to return the school-book contract, which Cape Girardeau citizens had requested, civic leaders call for another mass meeting tomorrow evening to decide on a course of action; the meeting will be held at the Common Pleas Courthouse.
Wilson C. Bain, the efficient first lieutenant of Company K, has been elected captain of the company; 2nd Lt. Allen Oliver has been promoted to first lieutenant, and Sgt. Conway Ivy has been chosen to fill the position of second lieutenant; Bain has been a member of the state troops for 10 years.
