The seventh anniversary of Lighthouse Bible Baptist Church, 2826 Independence St., is noted throughout the morning worship services; pastor of the church is the Rev. Jack Strickland.
The board of trustees of Old McKendree Chapel has accepted responsibility for the care and upkeep of the cemetery across the road from the chapel; a fund for the maintenance of the cemetery has been set up, and donations are being sought.
Detailed plans for the new elementary school to be constructed on Minnesota Avenue south of Bloomfield were reviewed yesterday by the board of education and the architect, Fred E. Dormeyer Jr.; final approval of the plans must wait on a visit by Dr. George D. Engelhart of Jefferson City, director of school building services for the State Department of Education.
Paul L. "Corky" Weiss, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lou Weiss of Cape Girardeau, is recovering at home from fractures of both jaws sustained Monday when he was struck by a batted baseball; the youngster was playing with the Red Sox team in the Babe Ruth League, when he was struck in the face by a line drive in pepper practice.
The Rev. William J. Schroer of Rochester, Ind., former assistant pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church, conducts services in the English language in the morning at Trinity; he and his wife and two sons are visiting Cape Girardeau.
Dean R.S. Douglass of the Teachers College speaks at the union services in the evening at Courthouse Park; he speaks in place of the Rev. H.C. Hoy, pastor of Centenary Methodist Church, who was scheduled to give the sermon but was detained at Rush Tower, Mo., where he will close an evangelistic campaign this weekend.
Bids were opened at Washington yesterday for sites for the Federal Building to be built in Cape Girardeau; Wilson Bros. Realty Co. submitted several sites: Southeast corner Fountain Street and Broadway, $16,500; northeast corner Sprigg and Themis, $8,250, and northeast corner Broadway and Fountain Street, $20,000.
Vogelsang Bros., the well known contractors, are awarded the contract to build the new Elks' clubhouse on Themis Street, just west of the St. Charles Hotel; the price at which the contract is let is $32,940; work is started at noon tearing down the old building on the site.
