The third murder trial of Douglas Wayne Thompson in connection with the death of a Cape Girardeau auxiliary police officer in 1961 has been delayed to Sept. 12 to 14 in Scott County Circuit Court; the trial, which was postponed several times, had been scheduled to begin Monday.
Cape Girardeau banker James Limbaugh has been selected by the Southeast Missouri Regional Port Authority Commission to serve as its commissioner-at-large, replacing Kenneth L. Dement of Sikeston, Mo.
JEFFERSON CITY -- Two applications for new banks at Cape Girardeau are rejected by G.H. Bates, state finance commissioner, who says, "We just don't want the west end of the city to be overbanked"; pending before him was an application to move the Bank of Gordonville into Cape Girardeau and another to establish the new Bank of Cape Girardeau.
The campaign is on to raise $40,000 to provide funds for construction of a building at Illmo to house offices for two physicians, the communities joining in the effort including Illmo, Fornfelt, Ancell, Kelso and Commerce.
Bids for construction of about 1,000 linear feet of setback levee east of the U.S. 61 bridge over the Diversion Channel, will be received Aug. 28 by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers; it will run from the bridge on U.S. 61 to Ramsey Creek.
Tom Trickey, 70, a native of Egypt Mills and now a resident of Sanger, Texas, is visiting Cape Girardeau after an absence of 55 years.
