McCLURE, Ill. -- Alexander County liquor control commissioner has shut down Hush Puppy Too nightclub indefinitely in wake of second homicide there in six months; commissioner, Louis Maze, has pulled club's liquor license.

Cape Girardeau School District superintendent Neyland Clark has been given one-year extension of his contract and raise from school board; board voted 5 to 2 yesterday in favor of contract extension; Clark's salary was raised $1,483, to $75,997.

25 years ago: Aug. 11, 1979

Backers of consolidation of Illmo and Scott City, move that was blocked earlier in week in 11th-hour legal maneuver, may start process all over again; Ollie Amick, member of Consolidation Commission, says launching petition drive and retracing steps already taken is one alternative to fighting legal battle as it now stands.

Cape Girardeau County officials are looking into establishing commission to issue building permits for unincorporated areas of county; it will probably be at least six months before such program is established.

50 years ago: Aug. 11, 1954

Extensive improvements are in progress at Capaha Park, with one special feature being lights now available for night horseshoe pitching and croquet and badminton games in area just east of Capahas' baseball diamond; roads in park are being widened to six feet, to prevent parked cars from making two-way traffic impracticable.

ORAN, Mo. -- One hundred bales of compressed cotton are damaged by fire in evening as they are being moved from Blytheville, Ark., to Chaffee on Frisco freight train; 50,000 pounds of cotton are worth about $20,000.

75 years ago: Aug. 11, 1929

The Rev. Emmett Cross, formerly pastor of Baptist church at Bloomfield, will begin his work Sept. 1 as pastor of Baptist church at Jackson; Cross succeeds the Rev. R.R. Pulliam, who has moved to Douglas, Ariz., to take up his work as pastor of church there.

The Rev. H.C. Hoy, pastor of Centenary Methodist Church, speaks at union service at Courthouse Park in evening; his subject is "The Weak Brother"; members of Centenary congregation provide music for devotional part of service.
