The U.S. Marine Band will present a concert in Cape Girardeau next month under the joint sponsorship of the Central High School Band, the Southeast Missourian and KFVS12; net proceeds will help meet expenses for the Central marching band to travel to Phoenix, where it will participate in the Fiesta Bowl Parade Dec. 30.
A restaurant at 632 Good Hope St., formerly known as Robin's Grill, is now under new management and has been renamed Bernice's Place; Bernice Harris recently took over the lease on the property.
A crowd of thousands from over Southeast Missouri and Southern Illinois is expected to participate tomorrow when Gov. James T. Blair Jr. snips a ribbon at 10 a.m. to formally open the new Town Plaza Shopping Center.
Ken Bernard, who served as manager of the first Gambles store in Cape Girardeau from 1939 to 1943, has returned here for tomorrow's grand opening of the new Gambles store in the Town Plaza Shopping Center; he is now sales promotion manager for the company, residing in Minneapolis, Minn.
The Cape Girardeau School Board yesterday approved plans for razing old Lorimier School and grading the grounds; the plan calls for approximately $21,000 in labor for the job, and would give 90 men employment.
A built-up roof has been placed on the building at 38 N. Main St., occupied by the Fred Barks Lunch Room; the building is owned by Bess Kilgore.
H.G. Dempsey leaves on the steamer Savannah for St. Louis, from where he will take an extended trip through the western part of the county; Dempsey plans to go to the Pacific coast and from there will travel to Los Angeles; on his trip out, he will spend several days in the Yellowstone Park.
St. Mark's Lodge, No. 93, AF and AM, hosts one of the largest gatherings it has had for some years, there being 95 master masons present, 50 of them being visitors from other lodges; after the conferring of third degrees on three members, an elaborate banquet is enjoyed.
