The Rev. Roger L. Henson, pastor of Maple Avenue United Methodist Church, has been elected secretary of the Board of Pensions for Missouri East Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church.

Evangelist Dr. Jerry Brock of Sedalia, Mo., begins tent revival services for the First Baptist Church of Oak Ridge; evening services will continue through July 15.

50 years ago: July 8, 1959

R.B. Potashnick Construction Co. has been announced as the apparent low bidder and expects to sign contracts shortly for the paving of a five-mile stretch of Interstate 57 in Johnson and Union counties in Illinois.

A new Masonic temple for Cape Girardeau advanced a step last night when members of St. Mark's Lodge and Wilson Chapter, Royal Arch Masons, ratified action taken by trustees in acquiring a building site on West Broadway; trustees had acquired title to a parcel of Doggett Park, fronting 100 feet on Broadway and 150 feet deep.

75 years ago: July 8, 1934

Turning down calls from two churches to become their pastor, the Rev. Elbert D. Owen, pastor of First Baptist Church, has decided to remain in Cape Girardeau; he was invited to become pastor of the Baptist church at Moberly, Mo., and the one at Kennett, Mo.

The second of the summer union services at Courthouse Park is held in the evening; a musical program starts off the program under the direction of William J. McBride of Grace Methodist Episcopal Church; preaching at the service is the Rev. William H. Hackman, pastor of Grace Methodist.

100 years ago: July 8, 1909

Mrs. D.A. Glenn leaves in the morning with Garrett and Sarah for Colorado, where they will spend the summer; Mr. Glenn and Ruth Glenn will join them there early in August; Amy Kimmel, who makes her home in Jewell, Kan., will join the Glenns for the summer.

The workers have about completed the pointing and filling in of crevices between the bricks in the Common Pleas Courthouse; work of painting it will begin soon; new doors are being put in at the front entrance, and the rear doors and all the windows will be repaired and painted.
