City employees will receive an average 3 percent pay raise for the 1987-1988 fiscal year, which began July 1; the salary increase is essentially across the board.

Trinity Lutheran Church is the scene of the ordination to ministry of the Rev. James M. Weis, son of Albert Weis of Cape Girardeau; ordinator at the morning service is the Rev. Ralph C. Fessler.
A contingent of 31 older Boy Scouts, Explorers and adult leaders leaves from Cape Girardeau by chartered bus for hiking and camping experiences at the Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico; those making the trip from the Shawnee District are A.M. Spradling, Joe Beatty, Michael Neal, Roy Meystedt Jr., Guy A. Foli, Dick Lueders, Preston Foster, John Rastl, Van Puls and Eugene Long.

The Works Progress Administration will direct virtually all activity in the immediate future to work on the new city park project on U.S. 61 and to the construction of a new gymnasium at the John S. Cobb School; a ground-breaking for the latter project is scheduled for next Wednesday, Emancipation Day.
Work preliminary to construction of a building to house a seismograph is begun in the "Home of the Birds" on the Teachers College campus; the project is a cooperative one between the Teachers College and St. Louis University.

Fred Sackery, who has been down on the Ponder-Leming road in Texas for the past two years, is back visiting his parents here; he has secured a job on the Iron Mountain Railroad as relief agent; from here he will go to Fredericktown, Mo., to relieve the agent who will go on vacation.
The motor car service on the Cape Girardeau & Chester Railroad starts in the afternoon, the car making a 3 p.m. run to Jackson; this car will be used in the service between Cape Girardeau, Jackson and Ancell, down at the Cotton Belt connection near Illmo.
