The Works Progress Administration will direct virtually all activity in the immediate future to work on the new city park project on U.S. 61 and to the construction of a new gymnasium at the John S. Cobb School; a ground-breaking for the latter project is scheduled for next Wednesday, Emancipation Day.

Work preliminary to construction of a building to house a seismograph is begun in the "Home of the Birds" on the Teachers College campus; the project is a cooperative one between the Teachers College and St. Louis University.

1912

Fred Sackery, who has been down on the Ponder-Leming road in Texas for the past two years, is back visiting his parents here; he has secured a job on the Iron Mountain Railroad as relief agent; from here he will go to Fredericktown, Mo., to relieve the agent who will go on vacation.

The motor car service on the Cape Girardeau & Chester Railroad starts in the afternoon, the car making a 3 p.m. run to Jackson; this car will be used in the service between Cape Girardeau, Jackson and Ancell, down at the Cotton Belt connection near Illmo.
