Four area natives and residents were among group of Adorers of the Blood of Christ who recently celebrated their anniversaries of religious profession; they are: Sister Ignatia Graser, Sister Celeste Compas, Sister Dorothy Reinhold and Sister Etheldreda Heard.

Reception was held recently in honor of the Rev. Miles H. White, who was awarded doctor of ministry degree at McCormic Theological Seminary in Chicago in June; White, pastor of Westminster Presbyterian Church, was presented sterling silver cross from congregation during worship service; it was handcrafted by late Otto F. Dingeldein.

County Court's two-year effort to obtain permission for county to cut brush on railroad right of way along road No. 162 between Route A and Allenville has finally been successful; court, after making numerous contacts with Missouri Pacific-Missouri-Illinois Railroad Co. was granted permission Monday.

Excellent weather has permitted construction to move along well on giant new Marquette Mfg. Co. project in South Cape Girardeau; work on new cement plant, about 10 percent complete, doesn't at this point show any significant structures.

50 years ago: July 25, 1953

Residents of Illmo-Fornfelt-Ancell community are being given opportunity to show their interest in revival of bus service between tri-cities and Cape Girardeau; petitions have been placed in Arnold's store in Ancell, Jomack's drug store in Fornfelt, Harris Cleaners and Peck's cafe in Illmo.

Rural Fire Protection Association agreed to purchase Cape Girardeau's auxiliary fire truck for $2,500 during organizational meeting Friday; truck, with 500-gallon-a-minute capacity pump, a 640-gallon booster tank and 1,000 feet of hose, will be manned by city firefighters during off-duty hours; truck was home-made, built several years ago; only calls from association members will be answered, according to bylaws of association.

75 years ago: July 25, 1928

Lions Club will enter Dorothy Seabaugh -- "Miss Cape Girardeau" -- in queen contest to be held in connection with bridge celebration on Sept. 3; club voted last week to enter a contestant and has since secured consent of Seabaugh to represent club.

Once flourishing railway shops of Frisco Railroad in south Cape are almost completely deserted; hum of activity which once characterized this section has given way to silence; finishing touches on this deserted spot are being placed this week as workers compete wrecking of old roundhouse.
