Cape Girardeau and Jackson Masonic lodges request exemptions from county property taxes; representatives of both lodges appear before the Cape County Board of Equalization and are the seventh and eighth groups to attempt to win back their tax-exempt statuses stripped by the Missouri State Tax Commission during the implementation of reassessment.

The heaviest rain in Cape Girardeau in two months falls, eliminating the threat of a drought; the storm is accompanied by high winds and lightning, but no serious damage is reported; Cape Girardeau receives 1.5 inches of rain.

Work has been completed on remodeling of Viaduct service station, owned and operated by Mr. and Mrs. Walter Adams, on Highway 74 near U.S. 61; double drives were constructed, and the building was remodeled and a new asphalt shingle roof installed; the building was also moved and put on a new foundation.
