The Rev. James R. Davis, pastor of Grace United Methodist Church, is presented his doctoral hood during morning worship services; making the presentation is Dr. Doug Wingeier of Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary in Evanston, Illinois; Davis received the doctorate of ministry degree at the seminary May 26.
About 200 people attended the retirement dinner and special program last Sunday for the Rev. Robert J. Daniel of Hanover Lutheran Church; among the guests were his wife, Audrey; six of their nine children, and Cape Girardeau Circuit Lutheran pastors.
Robert O. Turner, principal of the University of Florida laboratory school, is hired as the new assistant superintendent of the Cape Girardeau School District by the school board; he will succeed Dr. William L. Allison, who resigned after two years in that post.
James A. Finch Jr., a Cape Girardeau lawyer and president of the University of Missouri Board of Curators, has been selected as the "Outstanding Lay Contributor to Education" in Missouri for 1964; the selection was made by the 10 Missouri chapters of Phi Delta Kappa, professional education fraternity.
Dr. C.Q. Smith, superintendent of the St. Louis district of the Methodist Church, is guest speaker at morning services at Centenary Methodist Church.
The steamer Golden Eagle stops briefly at Cape Girardeau on its cruise down the Mississippi River to Muscle Shoals, Alabama; the boat has a full load of passengers to spend the Fourth on the river.
There are 46,143 automobiles registered in Missouri, with St. Louis having 10,680 of them; only four counties in the state have no automobiles: Carter, Douglass, Ozark and Reynolds.
