St. Louis District Corps of Engineers has given Boyd Gaming Corp. initial nod for construction of permanent mooring facility on Mississippi River in downtown Cape Girardeau; location for mooring facility and riverboat gambling casino will be about 500 feet north of Broadway floodgate.

Demand for Susan B. Anthony coin is somewhat less in Cape Girardeau than it is in other parts of country, where long lines of people wait to receive new coin; only few coins are sold at area banks; coin marks first time an American woman's image has appeared on U.S. money.
Findings of federal mediator in dispute between city of Cape Girardeau and employees of two departments won't be binding, both sides agree; mediation was agreed upon Friday, ending work stoppage by city firefighters and public works employees; workers have returned to their jobs, and city services are returning to normal.

M.S. Gwinn, District 10 engineer for state highway department, says that while new entrance to Arena Park will be built during current construction season, definite time for it to start must wait until next letting of bids; originally, highway department workers were to install pavement, but that has been changed and work will be done under contract instead.
David Stehr of Cape Girardeau was advised yesterday of death of his sister, Mrs. Mary Ann Scherer, 79, at her home in Blytheville, Ark.; born in New Hamburg, she was wife of late John M. Scherer; she is survived by three sons, her brother and a sister.

Special committee of Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce, named to negotiate with city and Missouri Utilities Co., on proposed improvement of water and light service here, has decided to invite members of city council and officials of company to joint conference July 11; conference will be public one, and residents will be invited to attend.
County court has approved construction by city of Jackson of band pavilion on west side of courthouse grounds, to be used by Jackson Community Band.
