Facing a nationwide decline in membership, the Methodist denomination has decided to use modern marketing tools to grow; one of the first tests in church building is planned for Cape Girardeau, where a new Methodist church is being created through telemarketing and direct mail efforts; the Rev. Ron Watts has been assigned as pastor of the new church.
EAST CAPE GIRARDEAU, Ill. -- Pilot Tommy Beeson of Beeson's Flying Services walked away from a plane crash yesterday that totaled his aircraft; Beeson, at the controls of a Grumman Ag Cat, a biplane crop duster, clipped four guy wires of a KZIM radio transmitting tower north of East Cape Girardeau; the plane crash-landed seconds later in a corn field, but Beeson walked away with only a bruised shoulder.
Sen. Albert M. Spradling, D-Cape Girardeau, is one of 13 people appointed by Procter N. Carter, state director of welfare, to an advisory board to help his division administer the new law providing broadened medical aid for persons on welfare rolls.

With two-thirds of a finance campaign completed and the finishing touches being given to structural plans, construction is expected to begin within a month of a new education building for Grace Methodist Church.
The electricians finished placing lights in the dome of the county courthouse at Jackson yesterday; last night, the great dials of the clock were illuminated for the first time.
Mrs. Hattie Palmer of Silver Lake, Kan., arrived Thursday at Illmo on a visit to her father, Church Raspberry, who lives near Commerce, Mo.; Palmer is in the hotel business at Silver Lake, and this is her first visit home in 11 years.
