Broadway merchants pursuing effort to persuade city council to turn Broadway back to two-way traffic are expected to take up majority of council's meeting Wednesday; request is on agenda for consideration; Donald L. Dickerson, attorney who has been retained to represent merchants, intends to introduce information merchants say supports their case.
Livestock is showing signs of stress from prolonged heat gripping area, while crops haven't been particularly affected because of adequate water before hot weather set in; hog and chicken producers say they have experienced some problems and dairymen say milk production is down as result of heat.

Corporal Jerry D. Tripp of Cape Girardeau has been awarded Bronze Star medal for heroism in action; Tripp, member of Company L, 180th Infantry Regiment, was with his platoon on forward hill position in Korea on June 14; he braved enemy fire to search for his fallen companions and helped carry them to safety; Tripp is son of Mrs. Rena Tripp of Cape Girardeau.
Golden Troopers lose in Kansas City in their quest for third Missouri American Legion drum and bugle corps championship; defeat is by seven-tenths of point to blue-clad Spirit of St. Louis Corps; third in competition is Jefferson City unit.
75 years ago: July 19, 1927
Heavy barge, owned by U.G.I. Contracting Co. and on which was placed its large concrete mixing plant, strikes snag near Illinois shore and sinks in 12 feet of water; barge had been moved to Illinois shore yesterday to be used in pouring concrete for pier there.
Golden Rod showboat, which for years has floated up and down Mississippi River presenting shows at larger towns, ties up at riverfront and will give its annual presentation this evening; this year floating theater is performing mystery play, "The Cat and the Canary"; along with play will be five acts of vaudeville and an orchestra.
