Resin Exchange Co. has dropped its legal action before the Interstate Commerce Commission now that it has tentatively agreed to enter into a six-month lease agreement with Missouri Pacific Railroad for the use of a portion of a branch line that is being abandoned here.

Supporters of restoration efforts at Old St. Vincent's Church launched a $350,000 fundraising campaign yesterday.

50 years ago: July 11, 1960

Some 75 delegates, with their wives and children, will be in Cape Girardeau tomorrow and Wednesday for the 185th annual convention of the Missouri State Council of Fire Fighters; in addition, officers of the National Association will be in attendance.

An order from the State Tax Commission directs an across-the-board 30 percent increase in assessments on hogs in Cape Girardeau County; the directive will add $43,041 to the assessed valuation of the county pig stock.

75 years ago: July 11, 1935

The Cape Girardeau City Council yesterday went on record as favoring a proposal to have a levee built along the Mississippi River in the south end of town as a government project and agreed to proceed to procure easement deeds for right of way.

The foundation has been completed and brick work has begun on the new three-story apartment building at the southwest corner of Bellevue and North Pacific streets, being erected by Clara and Anna Bahn; the buildingwill contain 30 rooms in six family apartments.

100 years ago: July 11, 1910

The steamer Cape Girardeau, making its return from Cape Girardeau and Commerce, Mo., strikes a snag about 512 miles south of St. Louis in the morning and sinks rapidly, after being run ashore by the pilot, Capt. Henry Stout of Cape Girardeau; the passengers are all taken off safely.

The McElroy Electrical Co. is now at 500 Independence St.; once the new Grissom building at the corner of Broadway and Spanish Street is completed, the company will move back into its new quarters there.
