The Cape Girardeau City Council is considering initiating a plan for the widening of a section of Mount Auburn Road; under the plan, an approximately 1,600-foot stretch of Mount Auburn Road, running north from Bloomfield Road, would be widened from the current 24 feet to 44 feet.

Recently retired Southeast Missouri Port Authority chairman C.W. "Woody" Rushing was honored last night at the annual banquet of the Cape Girardeau Regional Commerce and Growth Association, where he was presented the first Dr. John T. Crowe Award.

A Jackson man, who tossed a beer can from his vehicle along Highway 61 yesterday, is sentenced by Magistrate Court Judge Roland G. Busch to pick up litter along that highway from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. this Sunday and next Sunday.

Cape Girardeau County Court receives a check for $156.34 for the county's share of the wheat crop harvested from the County Farm; the check represents one-third of the crop produced on the farm.

Anticipating one of the greatest holiday traffic movements in the history of motor bus transportation, lines operating in Cape Girardeau add additional buses that they expect to be taxed to capacity over the weekend; it is probable 100 buses will roll in and out of Cape Girardeau Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

The committee organizing the American Legion's Fourth of July picnic at Fairground Park announces attorney Rush H. Limbaugh will deliver the Independence Day address on Monday.

C.E. Schuchert, dentist and cornet artist of marvelous talent, has been persuaded to resume the leadership of the Cape Girardeau Cornet Band and to reorganize its members.

The County Court, in session in Jackson, decides Light & Franz, proprietors of the Commercial Bar on Main Street near Broadway in Cape Girardeau, violated their rights as saloon keepers by selling liquor to minors and "habitual drunkards;" the court refused to renew the Commercial's liquor license, which expires in early August.
