Dr. Bill Ogborn and Cynthia Pitman are guest speakers at the morning worship service at Centenary United Methodist Church; both served with the Medical Group Mission sponsored by the Christian Medical Society; the group provides medical care to people in Honduras.

NEW HAMBURG, Mo. -- Monsignor Paul Bucher celebrates the 25th anniversary of his ordination at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in New Hamburg; Bucher, pastor of Immaculate Conception Parish in Springfield, Mo., was ordained a priest March 18, 1961.

50 years ago: June 8, 1961

The Cape Girardeau City Council adopts an ordinance setting July 11 as the date for an election on issuance of $1,598,000 in municipal bonds to construct a sewage disposal system and agrees to conduct simultaneously a straw vote on the method to be used to finance payment.

Cloudy skies and a cool breeze don't deter 246 hardy swimmers, who turn out for opening day of the municipal swimming pool at Capaha Park; the pool was sandblasted and newly painted for the opening.

75 years ago: June 8, 1936

Negotiations are to be completed today for the purchase of the site of Fort D, a Civil War stronghold commanding a strategic position on the Mississippi River, by the Louis K. Juden Post of American Legion from Mrs. Mary Houck, widow of Louis Houck; the site of three acres is being purchased by the post for permanent preservation as a historical monument.

After 11 months' service as commander of the Civilian Conservation Corps camp near Delta, Capt. Mosie Clark has been transferred to a similar camp at Perryville, Mo.

100 years ago: June 8, 1911

Henry Kimmich, clerk and undertaker at Al Brinkopf's Broadway emporium, has purchased the old Daues homestead on upper Bellevue Street; C.C. Hawley has purchased the Charles H. Daues house and lot on Bellevue near Sprigg Street, across the street from Kimmich's new home.

The Cotton Blossom showboat is scheduled to stop at Cape Girardeau Monday; a new show, "A Noble Sacrifice," will be presented in the evening.
