A new mausoleum, designed for 300 crypt burials and 120 cremation inurements, was dedicated at Cape Girardeau Memorial Park yesterday.

1963

U.S. District Judge James H. Meredith, in a final order, approves the Charleston, Mo. School District's desegregation plan with the addition of three amendments; the plan will go into effect at the start of the school year in September.

The Cape Girardeau City Council has turned down a rezoning proposal that would have permitted an apartment house development in Camelot Terrace Subdivision in the southwest part of the city; many residents in the neighborhood were opposed to the development.

1938

Thirty-five young men from 15 towns took examinations here yesterday and today to qualify as candidates for positions with the Missouri State Employment Service; the five openings available are senior and junior interviewer, fiscal supervisor, district manager and field supervisor.

The Olympia Hat Cleaning Co., 137 N. Main St., which has operated on Main Street for 22 years, has been sold by Christ Poulos to the Johnston Cleaning Co.; Ross Young is proprietor of the Johnston establishment.

Much doubt has been raised over the effect the receivership of the Frisco Railroad would have on the Cape Girardeau Northern Railroad, which recently was sold by Louis Houck to the Byrd syndicate with bonds said to be guaranteed by the Frisco company; an inquiry revealed, however, that it will have no effect, as the new owners of the road have ordered all improvements contemplated to proceed.

Last night's service at the big Lincoln McConnell tabernacle was the most effective of any held so far; the crowd was in good form for listening, the chorus was in good form for singing; and the evangelist struck his gait and held it through a discourse that glued every eye on him until the close.
