Dye, a Kansas City lawyer, is in Cape Girardeau in the interest of his candidacy for the Democratic nomination for U.S. Senator; Dye says he discusses political issues with anyone who will listen — on the street, in hotel lobbies or anywhere else.

The Appleton Brewery & Ice Co. of Old Appleton files an application with the state food and drug department for a permit to manufacture and sell beer.
With the need for medicine increasing daily, the Relief Association in Cape Girardeau is being forced to cut down on grocery orders to buy medicine; sickness is particularly prevalent among young children and babies, according to Mrs. O.E. Hulehan, who is in charge of cases referred to the relief association.
100 years ago: June 30, 1908
There is a storm brewing in beer circles in Cape Girardeau; the local retail liquor dealers' association recently served notice on the management of the Cape Brewery that the price of beer must be reduced or imported beer would be used; it is said that Max J. Koeck will refuse to comply with the demand.
Negotiations are in progress for the purchase of the Roth Tobacco factory; D.A. Glenn, J.H. Himmelberger, George McBride and E.W. Flentge will purchase the controlling interest, which is now owned by Martin Roth.
