Mid-America Sod Farm of Sikeston and Bell City, Mo., has established an operation in Cape Girardeau and plans to eventually consolidate all of its sod farms here; the new sod farm is on the George Heuer farm, about a half-mile north of the Cape Girardeau Municipal Golf Course.

Cape Girardeau County is becoming noted for its splendid roads and bridges; a large steel bridge has just been completed across Apple Creek at the Renner ford by the Brookfield Bridge Co., with a 90-foot span and a 30-foot approach; on the upper Egypt Mills road, at the Juden farm, a new 18-foot steel span has been erected on the old stone foundation; and the old wooden stringers and floor on the Borgfeld bridge, across Byrd's Creek, have been replaced with steel stringers and a new floor.
Dr. Benjamin R. Hempstead, a member of the Cape Girardeau City Council and a prominent physician, is in critical condition at the local hospital following an operation for appendicitis last night.
