Plans are being made for a mass outing of senior citizens to Trail of Tears State Park, the first annual Senior Fun Fest, for which about 1,000 people are expected; the event is scheduled for July 28.
A bid well below an engineering firm's estimate to build an access road to the Southeast Missouri Regional Port Authority site should enable paving of the road, which was not anticipated initially; the lowest of four bids on the road was $627,000 by Potashnick Construction Inc. of Cape Girardeau.

A joint meeting of official bodies of Masonic organizations is scheduled for July 7 to consider plans for a proposed new Masonic Temple in Cape Girardeau; negotiations recently were completed whereby Masonic organizations acquired Doggett Park on West Broadway east of the U.S. 61 intersection as the site for a new building.
Petitions asking the abandonment of the street car system in Cape Girardeau, placed in circulation yesterday afternoon, were signed by about 200 people before the day ended; the electric street car system was initiated here in 1906.
Grading on two Cape Girardeau street projects, costing an aggregate of nearly $40,000, is begun by contractor E.L. Markham; the projects are South Sprigg Street from Elm Street to the Cape LaCroix Creek bridge, and Rockwood Drive from North Henderson Avenue to West End Boulevard.
