50 years ago: June 25, 1960

Around 1,500 spectators braved the unusually chilly night air last night to attend the first performance of the Cape Girardeau-Jackson Chambers of Commerce rodeo and were treated to some unusual excitement when four Brahma bulls broke out of their pens and ran off; the bulls were eventually rounded up near Gordonville Road, about three miles from the Arena Park, where the rodeo was held.

Dr. Tom Herbert, Cape Girardeau physician, led golfers playing their first round in the second annual Cape Girardeau Invitational Golf tournament yesterday with an 18-hole score of 75; the tournament is being played on the Jaycee Municipal and the Cape Girardeau Country Club courses.

75 years ago: June 25, 1935

With most of the materials on hand, a force of 35 men under the direction of R.W. Watson, construction superintendent, has begun work on the Civilian Conservation Corps camp near Delta.

BENTON, Mo. -- In heavy voting, Benton citizens approve a bond issue of $17,500 for construction of a new high school building, the vote being 253 in favor and 39 opposed; the community is seeking a grant of $13,000 from the federal governments, so as to construct a brick building with a value of $30,000.

100 years ago: June 25, 1910

The Mississippi River Commission resumes its hearing on the plans for the Little River Drainage District in the Cape Girardeau area; engineer William J. O'Brien and attorney R.B. Oliver Jr. are presenting the plans of the district to the commission; the scheme calls for changing the course of the Whitewater and Castor rivers, a plan which has already been approved by the War Department.

A glass front was put in the new Haman business building on upper Broadway yesterday; it will be one of the nicest stores on that street.
