Higher water rates proposed by Missouri Utilities Co., and scheduled to have become effective July 1, were again suspended by Missouri Public Service Commission yesterday and hearing ordered for July 6; only two days before commission had approved proposed schedule, which company has said would raise rates 34 percent, after Cape Girardeau City Council had withdrawn objections it made when application was first filed.
Resolution to extend to July 6 length of time city may accept or reject bid for construction of storm sewer through new high school grounds and westward toward Kingshighway is passed at special session of city council.
75 years ago: June 25, 1928
Reports from over Southeast Missouri indicate that water in nearly all streams is falling, and peak of present flood has passed.
Walter E.
