Electrical service to portions of west Cape Girardeau and several points west of here is interrupted for about 22 minutes in the morning; Union Electric Co. hasn't determined the cause.
Cape Girardeau youngsters fared better than the state average in successfully passing all three areas of the Basic Essential Skills Test, but the local district saw a drop in overall passage when compared with figures of a year ago; 80.3 percent of all eighth-graders taking the BEST passed all three of its subtests in reading, mathematics and government/economics; that compares with 82.3 percent in 1984.

The Cape Girardeau Commercial Club came out last night in favor of a public park system; every member present at the meeting expressed himself heartily in favor of the idea.
Several promotions in Company K have been submitted to the commander of the Sixth Regiment for his consideration; those recommended are Cpl. A.C. Ivy and Pvt. John F. Huff to sergeant, and Pvts. Walter Kuss, Walter Schluter, William Williams, Rudolph Crossnoe and Heartle to corporal.
