50 years ago: June 17, 1954

Jackson school board has purchased four additional school buses for use in rural areas of the district; board has decided to transport children of Clippard and Schoenebeck schools to Fruitland, except for seventh and eighth graders.

Tractor-trailer loaded with 575 cases of eggs turns over on shoulder off Highway 61, two miles south of Benton; driver, John Moye of Tampa, Fla., swerves to avoid missing calf, and loses control of truck.

75 years ago: June 17, 1929

Police officer Robert Wilson, city's health officer, was shot and wounded Saturday night by man he sought to arrest; Wilson is in St. Francis Hospital, suffering from gunshot wounds in his right hand, arm and shoulder.

George Fagan, 27, of Cape Girardeau, lineman for local Missouri Utilities Co., is severely burned on right hand, left arm and left leg, when pruning instrument he is using to trim trees at 134 S. Lorimier comes in contact with 13,000-volt electrical wire.
