Digging into attic trunks for some of the fashions, or sitting down with needle and threat to recreate many of them, these Sikeston women came up with quite a collection of pioneer dresses to wear during the Centennial Celebration in 1960. Ed Grebing is retiring after 389 years with the Cape Girardeau post office; for the past 21 1/2 years he has supervised the maintenance and operation of the postal trucks.

50 years ago: June 15, 1960

Attorneys face off before the Interstate Commerce Commission at the Federal Building in a hearing over Frisco Railroad's proposed abandonment of passenger train service through Cape Girardeau.

SIKESTON, Mo. -- Large crowds, including many visitors, former residents and guest dignitaries, are attending the centennial celebration now underway at Sikeston; of particular interest is the evening showings of a colorful pageant, "Pioneer Days Relived," at the new athletic field.

75 years ago: June 15, 1935

City attorney Frank A. Lowry is directed by the Cape Girardeau City Council to prepare a new ordinance for the licensing of retailers, wholesalers and manufacturers of beer and liquors; the new ordinance will permit the city to derive a larger amount of money in license fees than was permissible in the old ordinance.

CHAFFEE, Mo. -- A campaign to raise $2,500 to assist in equipping a factory building here for the Model Garment Co. of St. Louis, was inaugurated last night at a meeting of the Chamber of Commerce.

100 years ago: June 15, 1910

J.W. Madden, a carpenter, is badly injured when he falls from a scaffold while working on the construction of the residence of conductor Jack McCammon on Merriwether Street; Madden steps onto a scaffold at the second-story windows, which gives way under him, and he falls a distance of 15 feet, striking his head on the ground.

A large audience is at the Normal School auditorium in the evening to attend the opening exercises for the big editors' meetings.
