After two years of studies and meetings, the Cape Girardeau Multipurpose Building Committee has recommended the old Southeast Missouri State University Farm site near Sprigg and New Madrid streets as the location for the $13 million structure; the city council and the university board of regents will make the final decision about the location.

PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- John Trapp and Dale Moll were appointed last night to fill vacancies on the Perryville School Board.

50 years ago: June 14, 1959

No definite plans have been made for the use of the site where the Colony Club formerly stood at the junction of Illinois highways 146 and 3, says co-owner John A. Wilson of Cape Girardeau and McClure, Ill.; the night club was destroyed by fire Monday morning.

As a service to its readers, The Missourian issues a Sunday morning special edition because of the strike that has tied up the two St. Louis newspapers, the Globe-Democrat and the Post-Dispatch; it is the second time in two years that a Sunday morning edition has been issued by the Cape Girardeau newspaper because of strikes at the St. Louis publications.

75 years ago: June 14, 1934

Bumped accidentally by an automobile as he was walking across Themis Street last night, Gust Schultz, a justice of the peace and barber of Cape Girardeau, sustained a fracture of the right collar bone and bruises on his legs; Schultz was walking to his Independence Street home after seeing "The Passion Play" at the Fox Broadway Theater.

Louis Weiss, until two weeks ago kingpin hurler in the Municipal League, is now on the hurling staff of the Longview club of the Texas League; the Texas League plays Class A baseball and has graduated such players as Dizzy Dean directly into the majors.

100 years ago: June 14, 1909

The Gulf train brings William Jennings Bryan and a train load of people to Cape Girardeau to hear his lecture, "The Prince of Peace," tonight under the auspices of the Normal School's lyceum course; the auditorium at the Normal is expected to be filled.

F.W. Pott is having repairs made at the Union Mill and will be ready for business about July 1.
