Republic Express, a commuter flight service based in Memphis, Tenn., is interested in locating a commuter flight facility at the Cape Girardeau Municipal Airport; it would provide flights between this city and Memphis.

Representatives of the Community Teachers Association are stunned after a meeting with the Jackson School Board; the board approves a $3,991,796 salary package for the 1986-1987 school year; that represents about a 5 percent increase, but is lower than the amount the association had proposed.

50 years ago: June 12, 1961

A crew excavating for a suspected broken section of the 24-inch sewer line in Happy Hollow along a projection of Merriwether Street finds it between 28 and 30 feet down; parents are warned to keep their children away from excavation while repairs are made.

Grand opening of the new Putt-Putt Golf Course, a standardized miniature entertainment at 1739 Independence St., is set for next weekend; the 18-hole course is managed by Dean Brown and Kenny Hargens.

75 years ago: June 12, 1936

A crowd of 1,500 people gathered yesterday afternoon at the Illmo railway station to greet Gov. Guy Park and his party of state officials aboard a special Cotton Belt train en route to the Texas Centennial at Dallas.

Instead of trying to bring wolves out of the woods alive, Denver Wright, the St. Louis leather manufacturer, is taking wolves to the wilds; Wright intends to release a wolf in the Three States Forest near East Prairie, Mo., tomorrow; after giving the animal a head start, he will hunt it with dogs.

100 years ago: June 12, 1911

Ernest Osterloh, 85, who has lived in Cape Girardeau 63 years, dies after a long illness; he was born in Lelm, Braunschwig, Germany, and came to this city in 1848, when he was 23.

The Cotton Blossom floating theater docks at Cape Girardeau in the morning and will give one of its popular shows this evening; a mid-morning street parade drums up enthusiasm for the entertainment.
