Some Cape Girardeau County students may have to switch schools as a result of a study of the county's seven school district boundaries now underway by the Cape County Reassessment and Mapping Team; the two districts which will be impacted the most are Jackson and Oak Ridge.
Organizers are preparing for the seventh annual Riverfest, which will be held in downtown Cape Girardeau Friday and Saturday; activities will range from band concerts and gala fireworks to games and contests for children.
A cornerstone-laying ceremony for the new Illmo post office is held in the afternoon; directing the ceremony is H.O. Grauel of Cape Girardeau, grand master of the grand lodge of Missouri Masons.
The Rev. Henry F. Gerecke, Lutheran chaplain at the Menard State Prison in Chester, Ill., is guest speaker in the morning for a special mission service at St. Andrew Lutheran Church; he discusses "Christ in Prison."
Robert W. Watson has arrived here from Fort Leavenworth, Kan., and has started activity at the Civilian Conservation Corps camp site, 4 miles northwest of Delta; the camp, due to open July 1, will be home to around 235 men.
Edward W. Hirsch, who has been acting head of the police department for almost a year, has been confirmed by the City Council as Cape Girardeau's chief of police; Hirsch's salary will be $150 per month.
The annual mission festival is held by the congregation of Trinity Lutheran Church at the fairgrounds; in the morning, the Rev. E. Bultmann of Pocahontas preaches a mission sermon in German; in the afternoon, the Rev. H. Schlesselmann of Gordonville speaks on mission work in the English language.
The Rev. G.E. Heidel, pastor of the German M.E. Church being absent from Cape Girardeau, the morning service is conducted by H.C. Haman.
