Board of Regents at Southeast Missouri State University approves nearly $50 million operating budget for institution; fiscal plan includes pay raises for faculty and staff; regents approve $49.87 million budget for 1993 fiscal year, with largest share of that - $36.3 million - going for salaries and benefits for schools approximately 950 employees.
Southeast Missouri State University's Board of Regents approves number of fee hikes and eliminates several scholarships; in all, student fees are expected to generate more than $18.3 million in coming fiscal year, with about $18 million of that coming from tuition charges.

Weather and current low market prices have combined to make lot of Southeast Missouri farmers regret having even bothered with putting out wheat crop last year; with wheat harvest well under way in region, many farmers are harvesting simply as matter of course with their sights set more optimistically on better soybean crop.
For first time in what officials believe to be history of Company, Missouri Utilities Co. issues request that its water customers cut back their usage until current dry spell ends; Virgil D. Chirnside, secretary and assistant treasurer of Missouri Utilities, says that because of extended hot, dry weather, company can't produce sufficient water to meet demand of customers.
50 years ago: June 11, 1952
With hotels and motels solidly booked, rooms in private homes are being sought to house some of more than 2,000 delegates expected to be in Cape Girardeau from Thursday night until Sunday noon for Veterans of Foreign Wars state encampments.
Controversy between city officials and delivery vehicle operators over enforcement of city's parking ordinances appears to be resolved; it has been decided that regardless of who it is or what kind of vehicle is being driven, operator must pay fee for use of metered zone; also, double parking will be permitted only if no space is available next to curb.
75 years ago: June 11, 1927
Mrs. Amelia L. Gehrs, 51, wife of John H. Gehrs, professor of agriculture at Cape Girardeau Teachers College, and prominent in church and club activities, dies at local hospital; she was born in Stover, Mo., daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Luetjen; she and her family moved to Cape Girardeau in 1918; she is survived by her husband and children, Perl Gehrs and Milton Gehrs; five sisters and four brothers.
Henry Ho, former proprietor of Chinese laundry in Cape Girardeau, has just returned from trip to China; he says he doesn't like his native country any more because there's "too much fighting" going on there; Ho came back to Cape Girardeau with view of establishing another laundry, but he hasn't decided definitely to do so; he left here three years ago and returned to China, after making tour of European countries.
