The weather cooperates with youngsters who turn out to fish the lake in the newly opened section of Cape County Park; most of the anglers go home with limits of catfish, bluegill or bass, or a combination of the three.

A beautification project proposed by Cape Girardeau Redevelopment Corp. at Main and Themis streets will be considered by the city council when it meets Wednesday; the corporation plans to install a clock in the center of the intersection, along with interlocking bricks in a square pattern that would serve as pedestrian walkways connecting the sidewalks.

50 years ago: June 1, 1960

Cape Girardeau becomes a name on the nationwide Federal Aviation Agency network at 8 a.m. when the new flight service station and its elaborate electronic equipment is placed into service; it provides flight data for planes within a wide area of Cape Girardeau; upon completion of the installation of equipment, it will remotely operate existing stations at Farmington, Mo., and Malden, Mo.

Heading the slate of Cape Choraliers' officers for next season will be R.G. Wagoner, a member of the State College industrial arts program.

75 years ago: June 1, 1935

A small office building is being constructed at 822 Broadway for C.M. Kern, who has established a used-car business on the lot.

One of the largest crowds of the season is expected to attend a doubleheader baseball game at Illmo tomorrow and see the dedication of the newly built Tri-City Park; Mayor G.T. Dorris of Illmo will toss out the first ball, and Emil Steck will attempt the catch, with C.C. Marshall at the bat.

100 years ago: June 1, 1910

Manager C.A. Cook of the Riverview Hotel is getting his hostelry in good shape; the second and third floors are newly papered, as is the dining room; new linoleum has also been put down.

Contractor C.C. Hawley has begun the excavating of Lorimier Street, between Broadway and Themis Street, preparatory to grading and macadamizing; Hawley recently bought a large deposit of sand from the property of Alexander and Kochtitzky on Broadway, which he will use in street construction.
