More rights of way for Interstate 55 have been filed in Jackson for record; one deed will split Joe H. Hoffmeister's farm north of Jackson in two; the highway will go between the house and barn, and one or both may be removed.

The Interstate Commerce Commission sets June 3 as the date for a public hearing in Cape Girardeau on the application of the Frisco Railroad to abandon its two-day passenger trains between St. Louis and Memphis, Tenn.

75 years ago: May 5, 1935

Hillcrest Golf Club of Cape Girardeau officially comes into existence, one week before the new course will open, when E.L. McClintock leads a dozen local golfers to Charleston, Mo., for a match that will open the Cape Girardeau schedule in the Southeast Missouri Golf League; members of the Cape Girardeau team are McClintock, Jack Hess, Don Black, Jim England, Clyde Schwab, William Schuette, Dr. J.H. Huff, Judge L.L. Bowman, Charles Harrison Jr., Dr. Neil Johnstone, Lou Muegge and others.

Statewide "Go to Sunday School and Church Day" is observed in Cape Girardeau with special services.

100 years ago: May 5, 1910

Gene Sullivan is home, shaking hands with his old chums in Cape Girardeau and telling the boys all about the life of a sailor aboard one of Uncle Sam's war vessels; Sullivan is a machinist's mate on the Idaho.

John Stike, one of the prominent businessmen of New Hamburg, Mo., is in Cape Girardeau; he is preparing for a grand opening of his new building, which contains his buffet and a big hall; a dance will be the principal feature of the opening, with the Capaha Orchestra providing the music.
