After agreeing to merge, preparation of legal documents is all that stands in the way for a joining of the Family Learning Center and Community Counseling Center.

State College yesterday graduated the largest class in its history; there were 433 graduating seniors; commencement speaker at the Houck Field House ceremony was Dr. Felix C. Robb, president of George Peabody College of Teachers in Nashville, Tennessee.

A recently completed 32-bed, $60,000 addition to Deal Nursing Home in Jackson was dedicated yesterday; owner and administrator of the facility is B.J. Thompson.

1939

The Southeast Missouri Area Council of Boy Scouts recently expanded, taking in the counties of Madison and Perry, which formerly were part of the old Mineral Area Council; the latter council has been disbanded; its remaining 10 counties were absorbed into the St. Louis Council.

A St. Louis manufacturer has approached the Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce about locating a factory here for the making of women's high-grade dresses; the plant here would be a branch factory of one that's been in business in St. Louis for 25 years.

1914

There was no baseball game at the fairgrounds yesterday; it was a slaughter, pure and simple; the Capahas, playing the team from New Madrid, Missouri, imported a savage from Poplar Bluff, Missouri, one Cory Bacchus; he mowed down visiting batters for a 21-3 victory.

Dr. James Lee of St. Louis arrives on the noon train; he will deliver the address this evening to the graduating class of the high school at the Presbyterian Church.
