State Highway Commission on June 1 will take over maintenance of four more existing roads in Cape Girardeau County, relieving county of cost of their upkeep.

Cape Girardeau Central High Tigers defeated Central High Red Wings of St. Louis 8-4 yesterday at Capaha Park in sectional baseball game; next Thursday, winners will meet winner of Normandy and Esther game to see which team enters state tournament May 26 through 28 at Busch Stadium in St. Louis.

ST. LOUIS -- Federal Judge Charles B. Davis denies application for injunction against government to prevent receiving of bids and awarding of contracts for construction of $44,000,000 flood-control project in Mississippi and New Madrid counties.

Frank King, 26, of Memphis, Tenn., is drowned in Mississippi River at foot of Broadway when he loses his balance and falls into stream from raft tied up to shore.
