CHAFFEE, Mo. -- Sister Pancratia (Grace Marie) Schmitt, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Schmitt, celebrates the golden jubilee of her first vows as an Adorer of the Sisters of the Precious Blood of Christ in the morning at St. Ambrose Catholic Church.

During the annual picnic of the Historical Association of Greater Cape Girardeau at the Glenn House, Martha Bender, member of the Missouri Advisory Council of Historic Preservation, presents certificates for the National Register of Historic Places for the Glenn House and the Reynolds House to Tom H. Gerhardt and Ted Hoenern.

50 years ago: May 20, 1959

R.A. Fulenwider, Jackson druggist, has been elected president of the Southeast Missouri Hospital board of trustees; also elected were Marvin Hecht, first vice president; John L. Wescoat, second vice president, and Lindsay W. Simmmons, secretary-treasurer.

Dedication of the 1950 Sagamore, the State College yearbook, to professor H.O. Grauel, head of the department of English, is marked in ceremonies at a school assembly.

75 years ago: May 20, 1934

Today is the 80th anniversary of Trinity Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau; no elaborate program is produced, but the occasion receives mention in services conducted by the pastor, the Rev. F.H. Melzer.

Commencement activities for Southeast Missouri State Teachers College get underway in the afternoon with a baccalaureate service at Academic Hall; delivering the sermon is Dr. R.H. Daugherty, pastor of Centenary Methodist Church.

100 years ago: May 20, 1909

Linemen are putting up a number of new telephone poles throughout Cape Girardeau and stringing new cables, made necessary by the increased business of the telephone company; until the new headquarters is built on Broadway, the company will increase capacity by installing a larger, central energy board in the old place on Themis Street.

Work on the new federal building is progressing nicely, and it is taking on an imposing appearance; the tiling for the floors has arrived.
