A silver anniversary celebration for Scope Club (GFWC-MFWC) took place yesterday at St. Andrew Lutheran Church; Scope Club was organized and federated in 1957.

50 years ago: May 2, 1957

PORTAGEVILLE, Mo. -- The Missouri Legislature was asked in a resolution adopted here yesterday by the Missouri 10th District Democratic Women's Club to bring daylight-saving time to a vote of the people of the state; the resolution was introduced by Edna Schrader of Cape Girardeau.

Nearly 1,000 pupils from 42 high schools in Southeast Missouri will be in Cape Girardeau on Saturday for the final round of the annual district events that have been held each weekend for nearly two months; scholastic contests and the annual track and field carnival will be held Saturday.

75 years ago: May 2, 1932

The Boy Scout office moved to one of the two front rooms in the Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce building; it had occupied a large room in the rear of the building.

Herman H. Mueller, 74, pioneer meat packer and president of the Building & Loan Association at Jackson, died at his home there; Mueller was a native of Hearmsdorf, Germany, coming to the United States with his parents in 1868; he is survived by his widow, Ida Ermertz Mueller; three daughters and six sons.

100 years ago: May 2, 1907

The man killed on the Frisco Railroad tracks yesterday was Henry J. Lueders, who moved to Cape Girardeau only a few weeks ago. He was on his way fishing or returning when he was struck by the freight engine and thrown from the tracks, receiving injuries from which he died minutes later.

In an errorless baseball game yesterday, the Normal School team shut out the Jackson team and scored 12 runs, while Jackson was trying every trick known to get a man to second base.
