County voter registration officials say "Registration Outreach" should result in well over 1,000 new names being added to Cape Girardeau County's voter registration rolls upon completion of the program Wednesday.
A flood-protection plan, including earthen levees, pumping station, floodgates and channelization, has been recommended for the oldest U.S. city on the west bank of the Mississippi River -- Ste. Genevieve, Mo.
Members of the Exchange Club agreed last night to support the city bond issue for a swimming pool, and a letter to that effect will be sent to the mayor; tentative plans for the pool were explained by William F. Suedekum Jr., at a dinner meeting at the Airline.
Mr. and Mrs. E.H. Scarlett Jr., were high bidders and award winners for the residence at 1702 N. Main St., built during the school year by the building trades class of Central High School; the winning bid was $12,009 for the three-bedroom house.
Mrs. Addie Wilson Frissell, 76, a native and lifelong resident of Cape Girardeau County and descendant of one of the pioneer families in this section, died yesterday around midnight; she was the daughter of John and Amanda Anderson Wilson, original settlers of Oak Ridge; she married N.C. Frissell in 1871, and he died in 1919; she is survived by six children.
Armor George and his son, Homer, of Chaffee, Mo., say they will open a drug store at Main Street and Broadway within the next 10 days. They have purchased the stock of goods of the Dalton Drug Store, which was bought by the Farmers & Merchants Bank through bankruptcy proceedings.
Lawyer John A. Hope, who recently moved to Cape Girardeau from Jackson, has been honored by Gov. Guy Folk; he has been made a member of the board of managers of the asylum at Farmington, Mo.; Hope, who is a busy man, hasn't decided whether to accept the appointment.
The Daily Republican's souvenir magazine of Cape Girardeau, being sold in connection with the big drummers meeting, is very popular, with hundreds of copies already having been sold; aside from those being sold locally, 22 went to Germany, nearly as many to England, three to South Africa, one to Bohemia, a large number to Canada and dozens went to every state in the Union.
