Rumors Inc. of Cape Girardeau, a downtown night spot, plans to reopen Friday; the club, which was heavily damaged by smoke and fire in November, has been undergoing remodeling and reconstruction since that time.
Linda McFarland has purchased Brenda's Place Restaurant, 24 S. Spanish St., renaming it McFarland's Place Restaurant; she and her mother, Maxine McFarland, will do the cooking for the restaurant, serving breakfast, sandwiches, plate lunches and homemade pies.
A city-sponsored recreational program for children will be conducted this summer on an experimental basis, operating on a $2,500 budget; the program will be divided into two categories, athletics and arts and crafts.
Henry Warfield, the contractor wrecking houses at the site of the new post office building at Bellevue and Frederick streets, says he expects to have the actual location of the building clear by next week; one resident, Mrs. Laura Jones, remains at the location.
Plaza Cafe, 707 Broadway, will reopen to business tomorrow after being closed two weeks for redecoration; a new fountain has been installed, as well as new kitchen fixtures and equipment; the cafe is owned by Mr. and Mrs. F.F. Reed, who have been in the restaurant business here 23 years, moving to Broadway nearly six years ago after being on Good Hope Street 17 years.
Baccalaureate exercises, the first part of the 65th annual commencement at Teachers College, will be tomorrow evening in the college auditorium; a record class of 134 seniors will graduate.
It is rumored that the theatrical world is considering cutting Cape Girardeau off the theatrical map, and the reason isn't hard to find; Girardeans won't attend the shows, whether good, bad or indifferent; it is sad to relate, but Chaffee, Missouri, invariably gives a better turnout than Cape Girardeau.
A.B. Groves and his first assistant of St. Louis are here to confer with the building committee of Centenary Methodist Church; architect Groves has completed the plans for the new building, and he and his assistant are conferring with the committee regarding the walls that still stand; some of the walls can be saved, but the question is how much.
