A 113-year-old home has been added to Cape Girardeau's growing list of sites qualifying for inclusion on the National Register of Historic Places; Longview, owned by Mr. and Mrs. W.R. Thompson, attains national register status.
EAST CAPE GIRARDEAU, Ill. — East Cape-Clear Creek Levee District officials ask that the district be declared a disaster area, as much of the district remains covered with groundwater and is becoming unusable for planting this year; in addition, officials are concerned tanks at the adjacent Ilada Energy Corp. plant, where oil containing PCBs has been found, will rupture and spread the oil throughout the flooded land.

Sale of Kimbel Truck Lines, one of Cape Girardeau's major transportation industries, to Delta Motor Lines, Inc., of Jackson, Miss., has been approved by the Interstate Commerce Commission; George Kimbel, president of the local firm, says the transaction will be effective June 1.
Representing 59 different breeds, a total of 366 animals have been registered for the annual Southeast Missouri Kennel Club's Dog Show to be held Friday at the Arena Building.
75 years ago: May 13, 1933
A rise of at least eight feet is predicted to take place on the Mississippi River at Cape Girardeau within the next 48 hours.
Theft of athletic trophies from the high school building at Fruitland on Wednesday night is revealed by detective J.L. Huett; six of the seven trophies belonging to the school were taken from a new display case, where they had been placed the previous day.
100 years ago: May 13, 1908
Gus Schultz has won in the case wherein Cape Girardeau's mayor and the city council tried to oust him from the office of city treasurer; Court of Appeals Judge Bert Nortoni ruled Schultz should have been convicted in a court of law before any attempt was made to remove him from office.
L.M. Bean, engineer of Drainage District No. 1 of Cape Girardeau, will go to Dutchtown tomorrow to begin preliminary work; the exact route of the drainage ditch will be mapped out, and damages and benefits will be assessed.
