Illmo postmaster Paul Davidson has received word that the Post Office Department has formally approved the site for a new post office; the site is across the street from the present location.

Professor H.O. Grauel, a member of the State College faculty for 31 years and head of the Department of English for 10, will be awarded the honorary degree of doctor of laws by his alma mater, Findlay College, at a ceremony June 6.

75 years ago: May 11, 1934

A movement designed to secure united civic support for Missouri's Golden Troopers, Cape Girardeau state-championship American Legion drum and bugle corps, was started last night at a meeting of representatives of the city's three civic clubs, the Chamber of Commerce and the Business and Professional Women's Club; it hopes to raise $2,095 to buy new uniforms for the members.

A bit of pomp and ceremony will figure into the opening of the Capahas' new ballpark Sunday when manager Bill Sullivan will send his charges against the Charleston, Mo., Cardinals; Mayor Edward L. Drum will make the first pitch of the game.

100 years ago: May 11, 1909

Dr. Dalton, who yesterday said the quarantine at the Adams orphans home might be raised today, finds a new case of smallpox has developed there; the quarantine remains.

While Dr. and Mrs. Field Sadler of Jackson are driving home from Oak Ridge in the evening, their horse takes fright about a mile from town, turning the buggy over and throwing the couple to the ground; with the buggy demolished and the horse headed for home, the couple is forced to walk to town.
